As the trumpeter finished, five young men from the Brokenhead Indian Reserve began to chant the melancholy Death of a Warrior song, as drummers beat a sad lament. Everyone stood quietly, the sound ofBeryl Prince's weeping the only break in the cold silence. The crowd of over 500 included people from all walks of life: active soldiers, veterans, Manitoba's Lieutenant-Governeor Jobin, Consuls representing France, Italy, and the United States, farmers, fisherman, trappers, businessmen and many others.
